About Us
White Otter Days is an annual event held throughout the month of July in our small community of Ignace, Ontario. This event has reached its 12th year, and has grown in size each year by number of events as well as by successes of events. It includes activities such as a men's hockey tournament, golf tournaments, fishing derby, Canada Day events, a children's festival, and our 'claim to fame', the John Ricci Memorial Music Festival. Throughout the month of July, our community is active with residents and visitors taking part in this busy schedule of activities. As with any event such as this, growing in size means a growth in expenses. Although our committee does not directly organize all of the White Otter Days events, we are the hub of the event, by organizing the schedule, as well as providing advertising and marketing for all events, at no expense to these other organizing bodies. This includes our recent developments of highway signs, a website and a new promotional brochure. We also aim to keep expenses down for participants as much as possible so that no one is deterred from attending.
Our organization is also very active in supporting other events within the community which deal with children, families and/ or music. We have sponsored such things as new keyboards to the Ignace School music program ($2,000), books/ tapes to the annual Little Literacy Fair and musical instruments to the Munchkin Music Program.
As you can see, White Otter Days benefits our community in several ways, through economic enhancement as well as social strengthening. Our goal is to continue and possibly increase in providing these benefits to our small community, which is in dire need of such support. Any help you can give us through financial donation or volunteer work would be greatly appreciated.
